Africa
Digital Print on Cotton Twill Fabric, 2022
This project begin as a provocation to the textile spaces that continue to echo the colonial erasure of African fabric, printmaking and textiles. A call to interrogate the history of Kente fabric, shoeshoe, Masai blankets and the many prints we have come to identify as African but with obvious and problematic European histories and contemporary legacy.
This particular pattern was inspired by the scales of haka (pangolin) body armour. A reminder of how we armour ourselves in fashion and aesthetic before we brave the world each day
